The Best Dog-Friendly Places in Sarasota

The Best Dog-Friendly Places in Sarasota

If you're anything like me, your dog is part of the family. One of the many things I love about Sarasota is how easy it is to include your four-legged friend in everyday life. Whether it's a sunset walk along the bay, brunch on a pet-friendly patio, or a day splashing in the Gulf, there are plenty of places where both you and your pup can enjoy everything our beautiful community has to offer.

Here are some of my favorite dog-friendly spots around Sarasota.

1. Brohard Paw Park & Beach (Venice)

If your dog loves the water, this one is worth the short drive to Venice. Brohard Paw Park is the only designated off-leash dog beach in Sarasota County, making it a favorite among locals and visitors alike.

Your pup can run freely on the beach, swim in the Gulf, and make a few new furry friends along the way. There's even a dog rinse station to help wash off all that sand before heading home.

2. Bayfront Park & The Bay Park

Few places capture the Sarasota lifestyle quite like these two downtown parks. The waterfront paths offer beautiful views of Sarasota Bay, plenty of green space, and a relaxing atmosphere for a morning stroll or evening walk.

Afterward, grab a bite at one of the nearby restaurants with dog-friendly outdoor seating and enjoy watching the boats come and go.

3. Bird Key Park

Just across the Ringling Bridge, Bird Key Park is one of Sarasota's hidden gems. While it's a bit quieter than Bayfront Park, it's one of my favorite places to catch the sunrise or sunset with a dog in tow.

Bring a picnic, enjoy the bay breeze, and take in some of the best waterfront views in town.

4. 17th Street Paw Park

If your dog enjoys playing with other pups, 17th Street Paw Park is one of the area's best off-leash dog parks.

With separate areas for large and small dogs, shaded seating, water stations, and plenty of room to run, it's an easy choice for an afternoon outing.

5. Dog Bar Sarasota

Dog Bar is one of the most unique spots in Sarasota because it's designed for both dogs and their humans.

While your pup enjoys the fenced off-leash play area, you can relax with a cold drink, enjoy live music, or meet fellow dog lovers. It's a fun, social atmosphere that's unlike anywhere else in town.

6. Myakka River State Park

For dogs that love adventure, Myakka River State Park offers miles of scenic hiking trails through one of Florida's oldest and largest state parks.

Keep your dog leashed, bring plenty of water, and keep an eye out for the incredible wildlife that makes Myakka so special.

More Pet-Friendly Places Around Sarasota

Beyond these favorites, you'll find plenty of dog-friendly patios, parks, and walking trails throughout the area.

Some local favorites include:

  • The Old Salty Dog on City Island
  • Nathan Benderson Park
  • Red Bug Slough Preserve
  • The Legacy Trail
  • St. Armands Circle for shopping and outdoor dining

Whether you're grabbing coffee, meeting friends for lunch, or simply enjoying a walk around town, Sarasota makes it easy to bring your best friend along.

Why Pet Owners Love Living in Sarasota

One of the things that makes Sarasota such a wonderful place to call home is how pet-friendly our community truly is. From waterfront parks and nature preserves to outdoor restaurants and even a beach where dogs can swim in the Gulf, there's no shortage of ways to enjoy Florida's beautiful weather together.

If you're considering relocating to Sarasota with your pets, I'd love to help you find a home that fits your entire family—including the furry members. Whether you're looking for a neighborhood with sidewalks for daily walks, a home with a spacious fenced backyard, or easy access to parks and beaches, I can help you find the perfect fit.

After all, home should feel just as welcoming for your pets as it does for you.

This post is lovingly dedicated to Crosley, my sweet goldendoodle and faithful companion for 13½ wonderful years. He reminded me that life's greatest joys are often the simplest—long walks, a calm ocean breeze, and time spent with the ones you love. This guide is dedicated to him—and to every family whose four-legged best friend makes a house feel like home. <3
